Twitter’s New Feature: Mute and Report Abusive Posts

Recently, twitter adds its new feature and that is, users can mute and report offensive posts in they don’t want to see in their news field. Earlier, users can already ‘mute or hide’ those accounts that they find offensive, but now twitter is expanding its mute function to apply on particular words, #tags, phrases or conversations. Twitter is giving users broader control over posts they don’t want to confront even if they are targeted in those posts.

Twitter is also broader its function to ‘report abusive posts’, ‘hateful content’ or ‘harassing posts’ even they are a target or a bystander. Twitter said in one of its posts that over the past few years they have seen the amount of abuse, bullying, and harassment are rising across the Internet. These kinds of nuisance stop people from participating on Twitter, or anywhere. Because of all these Twitter is trying to improve its functionality based on everything it observes and faces.

Now, users can block specific content from appearing in their news section or in notifications. The new feature is enabling you to mute keywords, phrases or even complete conversations you don’t want to see.

This week, Facebook and Google are also restricting advertising for sites that propagate fake news that went viral during the fiery presidential campaign. It is a great step for stopping and inhibiting abusive and offensive content but this has posed a challenge for Twitter because the company itself is the ultimate platform for free speech and open debate.
